If you heard that 100 people died in plane crash and later found out the figure had been recorded incorrectly and was actually 1000, would it make you ten times sadder?
I’ve taught Maths for a number of years now, and despite my love for numbers they are something I can’t really connect with. Numbers strip people of their hopes, dreams, stories and identity. When we treat people like numbers and forget that the 319039 individuals who will starve to death this week are actually people we become disconnected and uncaring.
Whatever it is; asylum seekers, preventable diseases, road accidents, domestic violence cases, suicide attempts…these are not just numbers but people. This design is a challenge to remember that, be moved and do something about it.
Stop and Reflect.
